The blue marble.
The famous "Blue Marble" image was captured during the Apollo 17 mission in 1972 by the crew, which included astronauts Eugene Cernan, Harrison Schmitt, and Ronald Evans. The photograph, taken from space, showed Earth as a stunning, fully illuminated sphere with swirls of white clouds and the deep blue of the oceans.
The name reflects the predominantly blue color of Earth's surface when seen far away, particularly from the perspective of astronauts. The blue color comes from the scattering of sunlight in the Earth's atmosphere, which makes the oceans and other bodies of water appear blue.
The Blue Marble Birth logo also has a story. Artist Kaitlin Walsh at Lyon Road Art combines art and anatomy to create stunning works of abstract art. The watercolor featured in the Blue Marble Birth logo is called “Ovum and Corona Radiata.” This is the moment of conception.
