Frequent questions.
What’s the difference between a doula and a midwife?
Doulas provide emotional support, physical comfort and emotional support during the childbearing season. Midwives are professional healthcare providers who serve families during normal low-risk pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum. In Texas, we are board-certified and licensed.
Do you take insurance?
While most healthshares cover midwifery care costs, most insurance companies do not. Fortunately, the maternal fee for Blue Marble Birth services is competitive, and you can file expenses for your laboratory tests and sonograms with your insurance.
What if there is an emergency during birth?
Midwives are trained to manage common childbirth emergencies and they carry the same kind of medications available at hospitals. If needed we will transfer to a higher level facility.
